Hello beautiful people!
I live in a beautifully vibrant city, full of wonderful venues and exciting festivals and mystical nature areas. Whenever my friends or family come up to visit, they realize why the decision to stay here or move back closer to home is much harder than it seems. I live in a city with a small town vibe; I can have the loudness and bustle of the city, while keeping the quiet and calmness of the country. This is a city where I firmly believe anyone can find a spot that fits them.
Will I stay here forever? Probably not. I see myself in a small town shrouded by trees and nature. For now though, I’m happy to call this home.
So…my favourite spot…there’s a few. Rather than just mention one, I’ll give you my top three spots.
Favourite Spot No. 1: The Rideau Canal
The Rideau Canal is wonderfully astonishing in its beauty. Sure, it’s probably not the cleanest water around…you definitely don’t want to swim in it. But it’s not just the canal that’s so beautiful – it’s the nature and walkways and destinations along the canal that make the whole walk divine.
I love going for walks on the weekend, making my way across the docks and under the trees to explore the scenery. When the sunlight shines upon the canal, you can’t help but feel some sort of magic. I feel like a character in one of my books, taking in everything around me and finding my own little source of magic and light in the world. It’s a very calming and reassuring feeling.
Favourite Spot No. 2: Black Squirrel Books & Espresso Bar
There was a post from a book blogger not too long ago mentioning top bookstores in Canada to visit; to my delight, one was in Ottawa. I decided to walk along the canal and make a visit…was I in for a treat or what!
This place is a bibliophiles’ dream and their bank accounts nightmare! It’s full of common and uncommon pieces of literature, a treasure chest for literary lovers. The atmosphere is very down-to-earth and calm, creating a very comfortable ambiance for those who wish to stay a while.
The food and beverages are also scrumptious; you can’t have only one thing!
Favourite Spot No. 3: My Secret Path
There’s this little path I found between my work and the grocery store. One day, I was walking and saw that the sidewalk stopped. It led to this little park and then a small forest path; obviously, I went through it, hoping to maybe come upon something unworldly.
And that I did.
When I walk through this little spot, I feel as though I’ve traveled to someplace that doesn’t exist in this or any other world – it’s a place of it’s own. It’s extremely small, about a block’s length. But when I enter, I feel as though time’s stopped, even if it’s just for a moment. I know, it sounds rather weird…but I guess you’d have to see it to understand.
Hopefully my enormously large Instagram photos don’t make this post look absolutely ridiculous! I haven’t figured out if you can make them smaller…not sure it’s possibly.
I hope you all enjoyed! If you ever visit Ottawa, you should most definitely check these places out (and let me know, because meeting a book blogger and bookstagrammer are my new bucket list items)!
