  6. What was your favorite toy when you were younger?
  7. Which fictional character would you want to date?

The Answers

One. What is your dream novel, or idea for a novel?

I have two: a fantasy and a coming of age. For a fantasy, I would love to do a steampunk/fantasy combination novel with a Firefly vibe to it (not the space ships and such; not really feeling that). The central characters would be different races but it would follow one main character; there would be a BUNCH of diversity in it, from ethnicity to sexual identity to faith and so forth. The main character would be a young adult man who identifies as pansexual and slowly falls for either another young adult man or someone who’s transgender. I guess I just get sick of fantasy novels ALWAYS being a man and a woman … and typically full of Caucasians.

The coming of age would kind of be about my own life — only slightly. It would be a coming of age about a character growing up with a sibling who has Autism and Q22 Syndrome. Yes … there’s more books about Autism now … but it’s not the same. The novels always censor everything and make it look so easy … but it’s not. People never understand, especially since children like my brother are non-verbal and are extremely difficult to communicate with … I just want something REAL.

Maybe one day I’ll try to write my own novels …

Two. Which fictional world would you want to live in?

I always say the same thing (Harry Potter), so I’m going to change it up a bit. I would actually love to live in Middle Earth, but when there’s peace ha-ha! I would either want to live in Rivendell or the Shire … both seem beautiful and so relaxing!

Three. What is your preference: The beach, or the mountains?

Normally, my answer would be mountains — 100%. But honestly, winter is getting to me … when I wrote this (middle of March), we got MORE BLOODY SNOW! So … THE BEACH!

Question Four: What is your favorite vacation memory?

I think it would have to be when a bunch of us in the family (like 50+ people) met for the first time (or at least since I was a baby) and stayed up in the Muskoka’s. It was surreal to see all these people I either haven’t met or haven’t seen in years. The best day was when my mom, dad, grandpa and I went boating and I got to drive a bit. It’s one of the last memories I have with my grandpa and parent’s before my grandpa passed away. It makes me feel so happy when I think about it.

Question Five: Where is one place in your state or area you’ve never visited?

I live in Canada, so for us it’s provinces and territories. For someone who’s ONLY ever lived in Canada … I haven’t been many places ha-ha! It’s expensive to travel within the country! So one place I haven’t been that I’m DYING to go to is Victoria, British Columbia!

Question Six: What was your favorite toy when you were younger?

Other than Barbies and Polly Pockets? Ha-ha! I loved those so much! However, the one doll I remember actually crying over when I had to let her go was Molly from The Big Comfy Couch television show. Fun fact … this is a Canadian show … I had NO idea (Molly is the doll in the blue dress in the picture below).

Question Seven: Which fictional character would you want to date?

Again … I’ve said this so many times, but I don’t really think of characters in a dating way? No idea why, because apparently this is a thing. There are a few in Harry Potter that I think are cool. But today, I’m going to go with Peeta from The Hunger Games. His calm nature and optimism is something I need in my life … but maybe without the brain wash part at the end …

  1. Thank you for participating! I loved your answers!

I’m not a huge fantasy fan, but I love both your ideas for dreams / ideas for novels. I think you should try writing a book, especially the second one with autism. I have several friends who are autistic, or have children who are, and I think a book like that would be so valuable and appreciated!

    1. Thank you 😀

I really want to … I might try this year. I also want to get back into poetry writing.

Writing something about autism would be wonderful, but really nerve wrecking. I would feel exposed in a sense, since my families experience with my brother seems much more different. Books and films seem to always portray more “high functioning” forms of autism — but never cases like my brother. It’s really frustrating. Maybe one day 🙂

  2. Victoria, BC is one of the few places in Canada I HAVE been. I remember it having great gelato!

I agree with Laura Beth – your novel ideas sound rad! Were you thinking airships over spaceships? I can totally picture pansexual sky pirates for some reason. Would read, 100%.

  3. See you in the Shire! I have some fantasy series coming out but not for a few more years. Mountains sound more dramatic so put me there. I still have my small, multicolored stuffed toy appropriately called Horsie sitting among my books. Don’t want to date anyone but it would be lovely to meet my beloved hobbits and Faramir, a hobbit in a man’s skin, a gentle man and a gentleman (since you’ve not read the books yet, just completely ignore the travesty made of this wonderful human being in The Two Towers movie).

Namarie, God bless, Anne Marie 🙂

  4. I HAD A MOLLY TOO! 😛 😀 I loved that thing… mine had this spot on her head where you could stick thought bubbles since that’s how she communicated… 😛 I think I knew the show was Canadian because that rings a bell, but hey you can’t say we don’t have some good Canadian content.
I enjoyed reading your answers! My goal is to try and get to all 10 provinces and 3 territories… one day!

      1. HA! What are the chances?! 😛
Haha, I think it came with 3-5 thoughts, I couldn’t even remember what were in the thought bubbles, but it was a lot of fun. I loved carrying her around.

That’s actually a really good idea… I may have to steal that idea! 😛 😀

      2. I can’t either … but I loved her so much … should’ve never given her away. I didn’t want to but a kid my mom babysat wanted it and I was like … 12? So she said I should give it up since I was getting older … then she felt bad because I was so sad afterwards lol!

  5. This is a lovely post! Ahh, I’m a beach person and that gif spoke to me.😍I always get beach fever around this time of year because it’s tantalizingly slightly warm?? Oh my gosh, I would date Peeta, too. He’s so genuinely sweet and treats Katniss really well (when he’s not brainwashed, as you said XD).

  6. As a fellow Canadian-I feel you! Here in Calgary we can expect another snowfall in April and May, it’s just the way it is here 😦 And because I’m so used to the mountains being so close, I will always choose beach!

  7. Girl give me all the snow! I live on the coastline so I’m near so many beaches but I’m a mountains girl, give me a mountain cabin and all the snow and I will be ONE HAPPY GIRL! And I totally agree on the whole autism book thing, I have a friend who has it mildly but his episodes are horrendous, and my best friend from childhood who I grew up with, had a brother who has it too, and he can’t talk so we use cards to signal what he wants and trying to teach him BSL to communicate but even then it’s difficult work!

    1. Ha-ha! See, that’s USUALLY me … but it’s been tiresome at this point lol! You sound like my friend from undergrad … he could probably live in snow climate all year round ha-ha!

My brother uses cards too! He knows very little sign language, but he has the basics (he knows “no” and “more” very well …).
