Hey beautiful people!
This isn’t really a tag — though it should be! Zuky @ BookBum posted a bookish discussion about books she wishes she could read again for the first time, and I just thought this was the cutest and most interesting topic!
Soooooo … I’ve decided to do my own post! Side note — Zuky is an amazing blogger, which many or most of you probably know by now. So if you haven’t seen her grand content yet, go over and take a look!
One. J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series
Well … I’m PRETTY sure most of you saw this one coming. To this day, no book has beaten the nostalgia and feelings and moments and magic that I experienced when reading Rowling’s Harry Potter series. There are no words to describe how wonderful this series truly is. When I think about my late childhood and teen years, reading this series is HIGH on my memory list. Once I buy all the books again (… never lend people your Harry Potter books), I plan to re-read them all!
Two. S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders
This is one of my favourite books of all-time. The characters and the content just blew my mind! I don’t even have words to fully describe my love for this novel — but all I know is that this is HIGH on my list of novels I wish I read again for the first time.
Three. Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy
Four to five times … that’s the number of times I’ve re-read this entire series. There’s just something so intense and miraculous about Pullman’s epic trilogy story. But that FIRST read can never be repeated. I remember going into this book thinking it would be an easy read, since it’s classified as a children’s novel … I WAS SO WRONG! It’s definitely more adult like in my opinion, with heavy content and a well in-depth plot. Gosh … what a series.
Four. Mackenzi Lee’s The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue
As MANY of you know … I grew rather addicted to this novel … okay, let’s be real … I’m STILL addicted to this story and to the characters within it. After reading it the first time, I immediately re-read it again. The language use, the flow of the story, the wonderful array of characters, the plot … what’s not to love?!
Five. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince
I remember reading this for a Children’s Literature course I took in undergrad, and I fell in love with it immediately. The plot is beautiful and the amount of quotable quotes in this little story is incredible. Though I still get joy from re-reading it, I’ll never have that same wonderful feeling from the first time I read it.
I completely agree with your choices, especially Harry Potter! My mum bought me the first book and I wasn’t initially that interested by the cover. The blurb reminded me a bit of Chrestomanci, which I liked, so I decided to give it a go. I read it, immediately turned it over and read it again!

Oh, Harry Potter. It’s surreal how many people Rowling has effected just by writing this series!

Ugh I’m so glad so many others know the feeling of reading HP for the first time. I can’t even express into words the amount of pleasure I get from it, even re-reading it now it just shoots me back in time and I LOVE it!!

Oh my, I know eh? The Harry Potter books will ALWAYS hold a special space in my heart. There’s still no book / series that has given me the love and joy that I experienced when reading HP.

Great choices! I would also add The Perks of Being a Wallflower, To Kill a Mockingbird and Catcher in the Rye.

I never read Perks (way too nervous emotionally at the time that I wouldn’t be able to handle it ha-ah) or Catcher in the Rye (THAT I need to read). But I totally agree with TKAM!!!

I know, eh?! I feel as though when I finally re-read it though, it’ll kind of feel like I’m reading it for the first time since it’s been SO LONG!

OMG I haven’t read any of these – I can’t believe it! While I’m not sure I’ll read a Harry Potter book, I have a copy of The Little Prince and the others I can get – I’d better get on the stick!

Oooooo! I hope you do end up reading them!! The top of those five for me are probably The Outsiders and The Little Prince! I hope you read them and enjoy them!!

Aww, I love «The Little Prince», it has the most beautiful quotes! And of course, the books I wish I could read for the 1st time are the first three Harry Potter books ❤

I know eh?! It’s so adorable … pullin’ at my heartstrings.
I REALLY need to re-read them all. Unfortunately, I lent them out to people and half didn’t return or did in poor quality … so my goal this year is to buy them all (one or two a month?)

That is a good reason to purchase new HP series. There are some STUNNING editions! Which one do you want to buy?

I’m deciding between trying to collect the first editions before they get even HIGHER in price … or the adult ones (the black cover ones). I want to make sure they’re the UK edition though, because I don’t like the title being the “Sorcerer’s Stone” … and the UK version matches Canadian spelling 😀 Oh! And I want the Hufflepuff edition of the first novel 🙂

I love the white books covers. They are gorgeous. If I’ll ever want to invest in another HP book set, I’ll definitely purchase these ones:

Great post, Jenna! I would LOVE to read the Harry Potter series and the Outsiders for the first time again! Both are some of my absolute favorites, and it would be so wonderful to re-experience them as if for the first time! I still haven’t read the Little prince yet, but it’s currently on hold at my library! Fingers crossed I’ll get to it soon! 🙂

Thanks love! I really have to thank Zuky for creating it — it was so much fun!
Oh me too! You and I must have great tastes 😉
Oooo!! Please read it and let me know what you think!! I hope all good things! I wrote a review on it a LONG time ago (when my reviews weren’t the best …) and I’ve always wanted to redo the review ha-ha

Aren’t they lovely? I want to re-read The Outsiders this year; it’s been so long and I would love to write a review on it. You should totally do this post! It was a lot of fun 😀

Such a great list! I wish I could read northern lights and harry potter for the first time again!

Northern Lights was WAY too good … the complexity just blew me away! It’s a series that every time I read it, I take something new away from it. It’s just wonderful.
And HP is basically the same feeling for me. I can’t wait to re-read them.

Lmao!! That’s okay! And of course! I had to redo my settings on WordPress the other day because I was running into the same issue … I think with the recent update, it messed with a lot of the notification … blarg.
Ooooo! It’s so good! And it’s a novella (I think … close to the 200 page mark) so it’s also a quick read.
