W.W.W. Wednesday #1 || Book Meme

Hey beautiful people!

The hosts of Top 5 Wednesday have decided to take a summer hiatus! For a while now, I’ve been “hmming” the idea of doing the WWW Wednesday Meme and Down the TBR Hole … so why not both? For this week, I’m going to start with WWW Wednesday Meme and go from there!

Oh … this is also my FIRST time using the BLOCK editor update, since I forget to add-in to it a while back. So if the post looks weird, please let me know! I may have some something wrong ha-ha! Enjoy!

What is WWW Wednesday?

WWW Wednesday is a book meme originally created by A Daily Rhythm and revived by Taking on a World of Words. To participate, simply answer the following questions every Wednesday:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

I don’t think I will do this EVERY Wednesday, but we shall see how it goes!

|| On the Come Up by Angie Thomas ||

Synposis: Sixteen-year-old Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. Or at least make it out of her neighborhood one day. As the daughter of an underground rap legend who died before he hit big, Bri’s got big shoes to fill. But now that her mom has unexpectedly lost her job, food banks and shutoff notices are as much a part of Bri’s life as beats and rhymes. With bills piling up and homelessness staring her family down, Bri no longer just wants to make it—she has to make it.

On the Come Up is Angie Thomas’s homage to hip-hop, the art that sparked her passion for storytelling and continues to inspire her to this day …

Brief Thoughts: My first buddy read of 2019!! Olivia @ Purely Olivia and I wanted to do a buddy read and this was a book we had in common on our TBR list. She’s very kind, fun and a lovely blogger — so I’m happy that doing this will allow us to get to know one another AND have fun reading!

|| Dark Wine at Dusk by Jenna Barwin ||

Synposis: A seductive spy. An alpha vampire. A hidden threat…

When a rogue vampire group attacks again, Dr. Cerissa Patel’s happily ever after with the man of her dreams must take a back seat to her mission.

Her lover, vampire Henry Bautista, is quick to pick up the gauntlet. He’ll do anything to help his beautiful spy capture the conspirators who are determined to enslave mortals.

But as Henry’s secret past rears its ugly head, it not only threatens their mission, but risks their love—and their very lives.

Brief Thoughts: Jenna Barwin asked me to review her first novel in this series when I first started Bookmark Your Thoughts. Ever since then, I’ve been on the ARC team for this series! I’m just over halfway through but I plan to finish it this week!

|| If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka ||

Synopsis: High school senior Cameron Bright’s reputation can be summed up in one word: bitch. It’s no surprise she’s queen bee at her private L.A. high school—she’s beautiful, talented, and notorious for her cutting and brutal honesty. So when she puts her foot in her mouth in front of her crush, Andrew, she fears she may have lost him for good.

In an attempt to win him over, Cameron resolves to “tame” herself, much like Katherine in Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. First, she’ll have to make amends with those she’s wronged, which leads her to Brendan, the guy she labelled with an unfortunate nickname back in the sixth grade. At first, Brendan isn’t all that receptive to Cameron’s ploy. But slowly, he warms up to her when they connect over the computer game he’s developing. Now if only Andrew would notice…

Brief Thoughts: As many you probably know already, I enjoyed this novel WAY more than I was anticipating — it’s probably one of the biggest “shocker” reads (in a good way) for me this year! Highly recommend, especially if you’re looking for a light yet funny summer read with some character growth and exploration.

|| Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston ||

Synopsis: A big-hearted romantic comedy in which First Son Alex falls in love with Prince Henry of Wales after an incident of international proportions forces them to pretend to be best friends…

First Son Alex Claremont-Diaz is the closest thing to a prince this side of the Atlantic. With his intrepid sister and the Veep’s genius granddaughter, they’re the White House Trio, a beautiful millennial marketing strategy for his mother, President Ellen Claremont. International socialite duties do have downsides—namely, when photos of a confrontation with his longtime nemesis Prince Henry at a royal wedding leak to the tabloids and threaten American/British relations …

Brief Thoughts: This is actually a buddy read I’m doing with Rebecca @ Bookishly Rebecca — she’s super adorable and has a lovely blog! We both had mentioned how we wanted to read this and I’ve been EAGER to do more buddy reads, so that’s how is ALL happened!

Have you read any of these? Are any of them on your TBR list? Let me know your thoughts!

      So far I’m enjoying it. There’s something about Thomas’ writing that makes it hard to put the book down. I just finished “Part 1” so I’m eager to see where the novel goes.

      THUG is amazing! I absolutely loved reading it — even with ALL the sad parts. It’s a profound story with wonderfully built characters.

      And YES! I remember that ARC list of yours lol!!! You’ll get it done! 😉

  1. Shamefully, I haven’t even read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas – I just feel like I haven’t been in the right mindset to give it the full emotional attention it deserves, but I need to stop making excuses & read both her books now!! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on Red, White & Royal Blue – been seeing it make its way around the blogosphere recently 😀

    1. It’s ALL good … I had the book on my shelves for a LONG time but got too emotional to try and read it. I FINALLY just did it this year and I don’t regret it at all … mind you, I did cry a number of times. But it’s still such a beautiful story and the characters are lovely! On the Come Up isn’t as sad but still emotionally hard to read at this point …

      Oh yes!! I can’t wait! I think I’m reading it next week so review SHOULD be up this month 😀

  2. Yay, On the Come Up! This buddy read has been tons of fun and I can’t wait to keep talking about our thoughts on it. It’s literally so good!😍

    I’m hoping to read If I’m Being Honest soon, I’m happy to hear you enjoyed it so much. I also hope that you love Red, White, & Royal Blue! I know I’m looking forward to reading it, too.

  3. I was surprised just how much I enjoyed If I’m Being Honest as well. I thought that it was going to just be a fluffy read that would provide some entertainment, but it ended up being super entertaining and really provided some major enjoyment. Can’t wait to see what you think about Red, White, and Royal Blue! 🙂 Great post. 🙂
