The Sunshine Blogger Award Number Six || Tags & Awards

Hey beautiful people!

Nomination number six?! This is incredible … just sayin’. Thank you SO SO much Rachael @ Dog-Eared Pages for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger Award! Please peeps … if you haven’t visited her amazing blog yet, go do so! She’s a wonderful blogger, both her writing style and her vibrant personality. I wish I had discovered her site sooner, but I’m glad we’ve begun to connect!

I think I said this last time I was nominated, but I just love the book blogging community! Joining social media for book blogging was a BIG decision for me … I’d seen the rude and snarky remarks made on other platforms such as YouTube and even Instagram in other areas of entertainment. I just don’t care to associate with this … I love living in my own little bubble of fun and kindness and acceptance. But here … you guys just make my day. Everyone is so loving and supportive, even though we aren’t all the same. So thank you all, for making my blogging experience an absolute thrill.

*mushy time over*

The Answers

One. What’s your favourite lesser known book or series and why?

1714407

Death and the Arrow by Chris Priestly — I don’t know if this is my FAVOURITE, but I absolutely LOVED reading this book. It was one of those random finds at either a garage sale or a small bookstore. It’s such a great story, with my main complaint being that it wasn’t long enough. It doesn’t have a high rating on Goodreads … and I have no idea why. But to each their own! And I just found out it’s a series, so I plan to read the other books this year.

Two. Describe the best food you’ve ever read about in a book.

All of the treats from Hogsmeade! The description of them, especially in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, sound so delightful and scrumptious! To be honest, the food in general sounds really good in the Harry Potter stories, but Hogsmeade was the number one for me.

Three. Would you rather be a character in a whimsical magical tale or an epic space opera?

Definitely whimsical magical tale. Don’t get me wrong, being in something like Star Trek would be epic … but magical realms are still number one for me. Maybe something like Merlin, Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter … anything with magic! Heck, I’d even go with Once Upon a Time. Oh yes … it’s cheesy … but I love it … bring your judgement’s elsewhere!

Four. If you could change something about your favorite book, what would you change?

My top favourites are J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potters series and S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders.

For Harry Potter, I would honestly BEG her to NOT add Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I found it completely pointless, as the story seemed poorly done and the characters don’t seem to really match who they were in the previous seven novels. Rather than this … can’t she make a spin off of Tom Riddle becoming Lord Voldemort or about Harry’s parents in school and their transition to the Order? Also … people are going to RAGE when I write this … but I would ask her NOT to have Hermione and Ron together. I’m sorry, but there’s just no chemistry. Hermione and Harry have SO much more chemistry, and I don’t even know if I would want them together. I liked the friendship exploration … but whichever.

For The Outsiders, I just wanted more content! Honestly, it’s beautifully written and one of those examples where my ONLY complaint is I wanted more … I wasn’t ready to let it go at the last page. More diversity ethnicity-wise would’ve been nice, but I guess there’s the time period and location to take into consideration.

Five. Why did you start blogging?

I began blogging after realizing I literally STOPPED reading for leisure. It wasn’t that I stopped loving to read … I just had NO time in undergrad and then even less time during my masters. Then I just kind of stopped. I began gaming more, which I still love to do … but I missed reading. I need some kind of motivation. So my roommate at the time suggested I try creating a book blog — I could review novels and submit them online to help motivate me to read again. Thank gosh I did, for I got to meet all you lovely people and expand my reading variety!

Six. What is your most controversial bookish opinion?

Okay … every time I’m asked this and list items, I find out my opinions aren’t controversial. So let’s make this a fun game. If you WANT to, see my list and tell me in the comments if you agree or disagree with my statements *muah ha ha ha ha*:

  1. I don’t understand the hype with The Girl on the Train. For the most part, I found it boring with an unnecessary amount of additional content in it.
  2. At the moment, I don’t see the point of New Adult. I haven’t come across a book that actually feels like New Adult — the novel just ends up resonating with Young Adult or Adult Literature (if you have a good New Adult, let me know).
  3. Multiple points of view (POV) in a novel are annoying — there, I said it. I’m sorry but it just gets on my nerves! Not always … Bardugo’s Six of Crows is a good example of multiple POV’s done right … but there aren’t many.
  4. Cormac McCarthy’s The Road is overrated. I did enjoy it, but I don’t think it’s as fantastic and grand as everyone makes it out to be. We study this in school and I didn’t see the point of analyzing this novel.
  5. Novels with the “cheating but in the name of true love” trope peeve me off. Yes … it’s just a book … but you can HAVE really good contemporary romance novels WITHOUT cheating to be with “the one” …
  6. Young Adult is NOT a genre — it’s a category (yes, I put it in my reviews but the section is called “age group and genre” …).
  7. Love at first sight doesn’t make sense to me … because I don’t believe it exists *inserting the gasps for you here*.

This should be fun …

Seven. Personal library or public library?

Why can’t I like both?! I love having my own book collection … not only does having my own library make it easy to pick up a book, but I find being surrounded my literature very calming. But public libraries are fantastic! They’re great for social interactions or simply to escape from reality a bit, and they provide so many services nowadays. From eBooks to physical copies, I’ve saved SO much on books by just borrowing the ones I don’t plan to buy.

Eight. What is your favorite thing about yourself?

I don’t know if this means physically or personality wise, so I’ll do one of each. Physically, my olive skin tone. It SUCKS in the winter because once I get pale, I look sickly. But the summertime? Oh yes! I don’t even need to go out tanning, I just walk to the grocery store and have a tan … and the colour becomes really copper like and stunning!

Personality wise, I love how I find joy in the smaller things in life. Sunsets, water glistening on grass after a rain storm, the smell of wild flowers, blue skies … I actually get those butterfly happy feelings when I experience these things. With a world that unfortunately has a lot of unpleasant events happening, it feels good to see the beautiful parts of the world.

Nine. What book character would you name a pet after? (and what kind of animal is the pet?)

Oh … the pet is most likely going to be a dog … specifically, a mini goldendoodle or a mini labradoodle … THEY’RE SO CUTE! I love dogs in general, but many of my friends have allergies so this is an added bonus.

Image result for mini goldendoodle

Okay, I know this doesn’t ask for movies and books … but I’m giving them anyways.

Almost any of the characters from A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh books because … why not? The main ones would be Winnie (Win for short), Tigger and Roo. And Boo from Monsters Inc.!

Ten. Where would you go if you could go anywhere within driving distance (like 5 hours max) right now?

Gatineau Hills and hike ALL day … then Chelsea for some CHILL time. They’re both in the same (ish) area and are about 30 minutes to an hour by car, depending on how far out you go. Gatineau Hills is basically a GIANT park area full of multiple hiking paths for all different hiking levels. Chelsea is the most adorable little town in Quebec, especially for anyone who’s a big nature lover. I absolutely adore it!

Eleven. Who is your book boyfriend (or girlfriend)?

Blarg … I don’t know why, but I don’t ever know how to answer this question! Like, I love characters but never really think of them as a partner? Does that make sense? Okay, okay … based on the personality type I seek in real life, I’d have to save either Peeta Mellark (before book three) or George Weasley. They’re both sweet and optimistic characters, looking at the simple yet beautiful things in life rather than the negative and darker moments.

Eleven Questions for You

Out of PURE AND UTTER LAZINESS AND LACK OF CREATIVITY … I’m using Rachael’s questions lol. Honestly, I keep making questions I asked a long time ago so I just don’t have the ability to think of new ones.

  1. You’re throwing down ALL the gauntlets!

I’m trying to imagine Harry Potter without romance. I think it could have worked! And the ace and aro communities rejoiced!

Also YEEEEEES. I HATE multiple POVs. Especially when one character is so much stronger than the other(s). I had this problem recently with the book Quiver – WHY DO WE NEED A SECOND POV???

Congrats on your well-deserved award! This was, as always, a very fun post.

    1. LMFAO! *mic drop*

Oh man … without romance would’ve been even better! I feel as though the friendship element is so much better.

I think that’s why i’m struggling with Six of Crows so much … well, the second one. It has 6 POVs!!! And they’re all lovely POVs but it’s too much! I get too focused on a character so I don’t wanna switch ha-ha!

And thank you love!! As always, you’re a sweetheart ❀

Uuuuh, yes! The Hogwarts dinners would always make me hungry and I'd sneak into the kitchen in the middle of the night to get some snacks. πŸ˜€

I used to love Once Upon a Time! Not sure what happened and why I stopped watching it.. hmm..

Oh no!!! I LOVED LOOOOOVED The Girl on the Train, I read it in one day (it was right after New Years)

    1. Of course!!

Oh man … you and me both! We’d have to borrow Harry’s cloak every once in a while πŸ˜€

I stopped watching when the actress who played Emma left lol! I did end up watching the very LAST episode just to know ha-ha!

I wish I could but those kinds of books just mess with my head ha-ha! I’m overly sensitive πŸ˜›

  4. Jenna!!! Thank you SO much for the nomination! You always make me feel special πŸ˜πŸ’•

OMG, I LOVE question 3, I think I choose whimsical magical tale as well, can you imagine the possibilities? 😍
I hate “love at first sight”, I don’t believe in that and it always bothers me when I find it in books πŸ™„
I’m going to stop answering every question right now and actually make the tag!! πŸ˜…

You’re incredible, never forget that!, and I love this post, you deserve all the nominations!πŸ’ž

    1. Of course!!! You totally deserve it, love!

Ugh yes!! Let’s go on a magical and whimsical adventure! It will be grand!!

Oh man … me too … I swear, people think I’m like anti-romantic but I’m NOT. I just don’t see HOW you can love someone you don’t know … because, obviously, YOU DON’T KNOW THEM!!!

LMFAO! I’m totally like you that way! I get all caught up in the post and start answering them all!

You are too, darlin’! You are LITERALLY a ray of sunshine in the blogging community! ❀

  5. Oooooo I agree with telling J.K. Rowling not to create The Cursed Child… waste of everything ha!
And it’s funny I was having this conversation with my coworker this week about love at first sight and how I don’t believe in it! Yay I’m not alone! πŸ˜€ I was telling her that I like to get to know the person because I tend to like people based off personality rather than looks. Not to say I don’t look at looks, but it’s really personality based… and I got real deep with that haha! πŸ˜…
I’m also with you on both personal and public libraries! πŸ˜€

    1. Oh my gosh yes … I was SO disappointed …

YAS! NOT ALONE! I swear, people think I’m the most unromantic person on the planet, but it’s not that! I just don’t see how you can love someone at first sight … since you don’t know them? Oh, I feel you. Like obviously, I have certain physical preferences (I’m an eyes and smile girl lol) … but if the personality doesn’t fit then I just don’t feel much attraction ha-ha!

      And YES! Why not both?!

      1. I feel like people think that of me too, or that I’m not looking hard enough, blah blah blah. It’s hard to find someone you’re compatible with, because sure someone can look good, but if they don’t get you, it’s like what’s the point because it’s not going to last.
        Relationships are hard πŸ˜›

  6. I had so much fun reading all your answers, Jenna! I literally agree with EVERY word you said about the Cursed Child, Harry and Hermione, and more content for the Outsiders! I remember feeling so devastated when I read the last page of that book and there wasn’t more! I miss my sweet Greasers so much! ❀️

    1. Awe, yay! I’m glad! Yes … Cursed Child should NOT have happened … or maybe differently … I unno … I would rather other books by her.

I truly love The Outsiders, I wish I could find a book that gave me the same feels as that one ha-ha! MY GREASER BABIES!!! Ugh! Love! I just want to protect them all!

  7. Thanks so much for the nomination! I agree with you about Peeta. I honestly don’t know why so many people hate on him. I thought he was utterly sweet and caring, and frankly a bit selfless. Congrats on your 6th nomination :]

  8. Lovely answers for this and ahh congratulations on the award again, this is so amazing and well deserved, too, you really are sunshine on my feed every single time πŸ™‚ ❀
I love Peeta, I'm so happy to see you mentioning him here, he's just wonderful ahhh. ❀

YAS!!! MORE PEETA LOVERS! I just love how down to Earth he is … and selfless. Truly, he's such an amazing character yet people are always getting at him.

  9. Ahh I loved your story about how you started a book blog!! I’m glad it helped motivate you to read again, and I’m glad that it led us to meet! And haha, I definitely don’t think love at first sight exists either — I think there’s definitely lust or attraction at first sight, but there’s no way you can just fall in love with someone looking at them once πŸ™ˆ Great post!! ❀

  10. Thank you so much, Jenna! πŸ’–πŸ’–

Okay your controversial opinions: I totally agree about New Adult! Like, it’s something I really want, but I have yet to find a good one. The closest I think are Sophie Kinsella’s books, but even then, it’s pushing it. And SAME about the cheating trope. It’s the WORST. I don’t care if it’s “true love”, if your partner cheats on their partner to be with you, it’s still cheating!

I actually really like multiple POV, but I agree that it’s not always utilized well. Six of Crows did it great, but there are some where it would be unnecessary.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. You’re welcome! And ooooo! I love when people reply to my controversial points! I find it so much fun!

Ugh yes … I just read a book that I think KINDA fits. “Red, White & Royal Blue” seems to fall between YA and New Adult and is ACTUALLY good! If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it.

Ugh yes … you don’t need to “cheat trope” to create a good romance. I’m not saying people who cheat are bad people. I know people make mistakes and “hopefully” learn from them. But we don’t need to EMPHASIZE this in novels.

I wish I loved multiple POVs … I envy people who can handle them because there are SO many books I would LOVE to read but know I can’t because the multiple POVs is too much ha-ha!

      Thanks for commenting!

  11. HI, YES, CAN THE CURSED CHILD PLEASE NOT EXIST. It’s bad, but I honestly try to never think about it because I refuse to accept it as canon. I could go into all my reasoning, but then I would get all fired up and start ranting because I just don’t want it to tarnish Harry Potter for me at all, so I choose not to think about it!πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

I agree with you about love at first sight for sure- not that I have experience, but I feel like to love someone you have to know their personality, and “at first sight” only allows for love to be based solely on appearance…which seems more like attraction than love.

Haha, I know what you mean about never thinking of characters as a partner. In a weird way, I think of certain characters as “the love of my life” (writing it out, I see how dramatic I am) but I don’t actually think of myself WITH them, because usually there’s another character that I want them to end up with?? It’s more like, I adore them and am obsessed with them, but I don’t really want to spend my life with them either, lol.

    Lovely post!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. LMFAO! I feel like a LARGE majority of the population who are Harry Potter fans feel the same about “The Cursed Child” … it didn’t have the same vibe AT ALL! I could rant forever, but I won’t πŸ˜‰

More of my people! Yes … totally don’t believe in love at first sight. I don’t think that makes us unromantic … it just makes sense since you DON’T know the person from one look … unless you’re Professor X … then all the power to ya! And awe!! You’re so cute. You’ll get to experience it! It’s a lovely thing to encounter. I’ve been in love twice. And though they didn’t work out, I still cherish those two very much ❀

SO TRUE! I feel very much the same way. There are traits I love about characters, things I would want in a future partner. But I don't really read about a character in a book and think, "oooo … I want to be with him" lol!

      Thank you very much, love!

      Liked by 1 person

  12. Gosh I agree with so many of your controversial opinions! I hate the cheating for true love trope. I hear you about new adult and YA is not a genre (it’s an age category, which is not the same thing). I also didn’t get the hype for girl on a train- I think it was purely a marketing thing. And yeah love at first sight isn’t real. I frickin love goldendoodles and labradoodles! (I’d either have one of those or a cockapoo!) I *love* those picks! And Winnie is such a good name for a dog (I read a book where the dog was called Winnie the Poodle and I love it!) Awesome answers!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. THANK YOU! Like seriously, why are we rewarding cheating in novels? And yeah … I know I can sometimes mix them up … but we REALLY need to start getting these terms used properly … just sayin’. That’s why in my reviews, I put that section as Age Group and Genre.

And yes … NOT A THING! I’m sorry, but you can’t fall in love with someone you DON’T know.

AHHHHHHHHH! I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! AND YAS! I FORGOT TO PUT COCKAPOO BUT THOSE ARE MY ALL-TIME FAVOURITE! I grew up with cockers and I love the poodle mix … so …voila!

What what what?! I need this book! I’m finding it!
