Hello beautiful people!
Last month, Alex @ Whimsy Pages suggested I do a Harry Potter themed spread in honour of the N.E.W.T.’s reading challenge we are both participating in. This is hosted by the BookTuber Book Roast … and it’s flippin’ amazing! To view her video on the challenge, click here. To view my N.E.W.T. challenge post, click here.
So … as much as you lot say I’m great at bullet journals (which I thank you), I’m actually not the best artist. Doodles is one thing, but actual artwork of castles and owls and more magical things? Not happening. So here’s a FAIRLY basic Harry Potter theme that I hope you enjoy … and is easy to copy if you wish to do so!
I hope you all enjoy it!
I took inspiration from EVERYWHERE! The Fab 20’s and My Inner Creative were kind enough to write these HUGE posts of all the different Harry Potter themed bullet journal spreads people have posted … so I took random ideas from there and then made some stuff up on my own!
- Tombow Dual Brush Pen Art Markers 10-Pack, Pastel
- Tombow Dual Brush Pen Set, 10-Pack, Portrait Colors
- Tombow Dual Brush Pen Set, 10-Pack, Desert Flora
- Crayola 50 Super Tips Washable Markers
- Tombow 66403 Mono Drawing Pen (3), 3-Pack, 3 Piece
- 4 Roll Black Masking Tape (Bronzing) (both black backgrounds with stars)
- Hazel Wood sticker collection from OwlCrate (Hidden Worlds, February 2018)
- Scrap brown paper
The colours I used specifically for this set up are 020, 942, 451, 243, 993, 679, 992 (main one for borders) and 969. The colours from the crayola back I used were pretty standard: red, green, blue, yellow and grey. For the Tombow Mono Drawing Pens, I used 01.
Changes & additional notes
I added a page … which was fun! For the N.E.W.T. challenge, I added my Wizarding World Profile and a page for my N.E.W.T. challenge. I also removed my blog tracker for this month, since I’m trying something new with Trello.
BTW — if you want me to post a “how to” about using Trello for blogging, let me know! There are quite a few posts already out there already, such as Kelly’s beautiful detailed post. But I don’t mind showing screenshots of my own organization if that helps!
For photo editing, I used VSCO and used the following: sharpen, exposure and contrast.
August 2019 Layout
To make the images larger, right click and select open in new tab.
August Title Page
I feel like the Harry Potter glasses are one of the most iconic symbols with Harry Potter … and it was fairly easy to draw ha-ha! And obviously … “I solemnly swear that I am up to no good”.
August Monthly Calendar
I ATTEMPTED to make the calendar look like parchment paper … which was fun since I didn’t have to use a ruler for once ha-ha! I also added a “notes” section this time around.
August Hogwarts Profile & N.E.W.T. Post
As a TRUE Harry Potter fan, I OBVIOUSLY have a Wizarding World (i.e. Pottermore) account. I saw someone do this idea and thought it was cute. BTW … I actually did a quiz for the Quidditch position and got Keeper … like a BOSS!
I also posted my N.E.W.T. challenge information. My goal is “Hogwarts Professor” … specifically a teacher for Care of Magical Creatures. Hopefully I manage to complete this!
August Habit Tracker
Oh my gosh … I saw someone make a habit tracker but call it “House Points” and thought it was the CUTEST THING EVER! So I of course copied this idea. And then I saw someone do the doodle of the houses on the right and copied as well … though I messed up mine a bit ha-ha!
August Budget & Expense Tracker
So I stuck with my traditional layout but called it Gringott’s Records … again … people are SO creative!
Also, some people asked what the “symbols” are beside each expense name. This helps me know what items under my “expenses chart” belongs to each different expense category. That way I can calculate it at the end and see if I’m over spending in any area or under spending (yea right).
August Weekly Spread Week 31
Again, trying to stick with the “parchment” style layout. Also, these will have the days of the week in each box … I just forgot to put them in and didn’t want to redo my photos … #lazy
August Weekly Spread Week 32
August Weekly Spread Week 33
I’m not gonna lie, the little potions are my favourite thing about this entire spread ha-ha!
August Weekly Spread Week 34
August Weekly Spread Week 35
And … of course … I ended it off with “mischief managed”. Also, here’s a zoom up on my “deathly hallows” image … which is FLIPPIN’ hard to draw when you’re a perfectionist.
That’s a wrap! Hopefully this helps some of you create your own lovely Harry Potter themed layouts!
