The Guilty Reader Book Tag || Tags & Awards

Hello beautiful people!

I found this tag a couple of weeks ago on Jack’s blog, Jack’s Bedtime Reading. I only recently discovered Jack’s blog (from what I can recall) but I wish I had sooner! He provides wonderful content, book reviews and other miscellaneous posts alike! I also think his blog name is lovely and SUPER relatable ha-ha!

If you haven’t already discovered Jack’s epic blog, please make sure to visit!

The creator of this EPIC tag is Chami @ Read Like Wildfire.

One. Have you ever re-gifted a book that you’ve been given?

No. I HAVE donated a NUMBER of books, but I’ve never re-gifted a book that was given to me (I’ve re-gifted other items though … like a boss).

Two. Have you ever said you’ve read a book when you haven’t?

Oh gosh … I don’t think so … but you never know with “younger” Jenna ha-ha! I wasn’t exactly the COOLEST kid, so I didn’t like being the ONE who hadn’t read something or seen something. But now? I really don’t care ha-ha! I BET you I lied about reading Tolkien’s books at some point in my life …

Three. Have you ever borrowed a book and not returned it?

… yes … TO BE FAIR, I was a rather forgetful child and these were ONLY ever library books, not ones from friends and family. My mom used to say my day-dreaming was so chronic that I would forget something in less than 10 seconds. There are ALSO the times my brother destroyed some books (he has autism and went through a ‘let’s tear apart books’ phase), so I had to stop borrowing books after the first two were wrecked …

Four. Have you ever read a series out of order?

I’m FAIRLY certain I haven’t … if I had, that would be VERY unlike me and it couldn’t have been THAT big of a deal since I can’t remember.

Five. Have you ever spoiled a book for someone?

NEVER! That’s the cruelest thing a book reader could do to another book reader! I tend to ask the person BEFORE I talk about it if they’ve read it or not. I have (accidentally) spoiled movies though … THEY HAD ALREADY BEEN OUT FOR MONTHS!!

Six. Have you ever dogeared a book?

Unless I did as a kid … no. I don’t dog-ear pages … the horror. I’ve totally wrote in books (especially during undergrad) and highlighted parts … but I REFUSE to dog-ear books.

Seven. Have you ever told someone you don’t own a book when you do?

No??? Again, NEW Jenna doesn’t really CARE what people think. Once upon a time, I would’ve been embarrassed of reading manga’s or romance books … but now? I like what I like. And I don’t think I’ve ever had someone mock me for the books I read and own.

Eight. Have you ever skipped a chapter or a section of a book?

Oh … I’ve definitely skimmed read books, which I’m fairly certain counts ha-ha! The last Twilight book and the last book in the Red Queen series are examples of books that I REFUSED to not know what happened, since I invested so much time into reading the series … but I grew so bored that I skim read most of them.

Nine. Have you ever bad mouthed a book you actually liked?

Hmmm … this is KIND of a trick question. There are books that I used to love that I know critique due to writing style or poor messages provided in the plot. But I honestly believe that looking back at those books, there’s quite a bit wrong with them. So yes and no? And I think I would say critique harder than bad mouth, but that’s just me ha-ha!

  1. YESS TO BORROWING BOOKS AND NOT RETURNING THEM!! HAHAHA!! I mean, I know it’s a bad thing to do but to be fair, they didn’t ask for it back so I don’t think there was any harm done!! xD xD

  2. I’m pretty sure I have a few library books still on my shelf that were meant to be returned YEARS ago 😂 I paid the fine though! So does that technically mean I bought it?? Meh. They still let me borrow books though! 😄 great responses Jenna! I love how you own up to a new and younger self. I’m pretty sure I made a lot of the same guilty mistakes when I was younger too! Jen

  3. Oh I’m DEFINITELY guilty of skim-reading books (Nish pulls me up on it all the time 😂) especially when I’m time poor & I just want to know the ending! But I always go back & re-read the parts I skimmed properly, though 😂

  4. Oops, I dog-eared the Gardens of the Moon that I read in September… In my defence, there were parts I wanted to highlight but didn’t have a pencil. So pen vs dog-earing…. and dog-ears won! 😀

And yep… I’m definitely guilty of skipping sentences, paragraphs, chapters and sometimes skimming through 50% of the book. But only when they are horrible! 😀
