Back in 2017, I read an amazing book that still holds true to my heart as one of my all-time favourite novels: The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. I loved it so much that I re-read it instantly the next day. But when I discovered the novella wasn’t going to be able to be released unless you pre-ordered book two, I was rather upset (since I was silly and didn’t pre-order book two).

But luckily, Lee’s an amazing human and made it happen … WE ARE NOW ABLE TO PURCHASE THE GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO GETTING LUCKY! I was literally jumping for joy when I saw someone post this on Instagram. Much to my delight, I thoroughly enjoyed this story! For those who love Monty and Percy’s story in the first novel, you REALLY need to get this book!

↠ Pro 1. Just like its predecessor, this novella is absolutely hilarious and full of laughs! My all-time FAVOURITE thing about Lee’s Montague Siblings series is the amount of comedy filtered throughout the tense and dramatic parts of the story. There were parts where I LEGIT started laughing out loud, becoming extremely grateful I read this at home. From Monty’s internal monologue mental struggles, watching Percy and Monty become rather awkward with one another, observing Felicity’s amazing attempts at helping Monty with his love life … there’s no end to the hilarity of this novella. It honestly makes the whole ordeal utterly relatable.

↠ Pro 2. Though mainly a love story, Lee takes the time to address the importance of acceptance. Many of the characters we’ve come to love in Lee’s series have experienced some sort of discrimination — whether it be the colour of their skin, the illnesses they suffer, the gender they are, or the gender they choose to love. I think that’s what makes people love her series so much; she shows how there are people in the world who will accept you for who you are … that there’s no need to change yourself … and that you are loved. For Monty, he still struggles with being accepted as a homosexual man. But through this novella, Lee explores this more by showing both Monty and the readers that there’s no shame in loving who you love … in being who you are. It’s a rather powerful message she gives off, especially in just over 100 pages!

↠ Pro 3. Lee’s novella’s a light-hearted and easy read, perfect for those looking for a fun and relaxing novel to enjoy! Sometimes, you just need a book that doesn’t mentally exhaust you or cause your emotions to go to mush from being pulled too much. Lee’s novella is a brilliant blend between a comedy and romance story, providing a wealth of entertainment to readers but not overly exhaustive to take a reader days to read. It’s a nice mental break if you’re in one of those reading slumps … and the story ties in SO well between book one and two!

↠ Woe 1. I know it’s a short story, but the ending was so abrupt and unsatisfactory! I’m not going to lie, I’m still slightly disappointed with that ending. Here we are, reaching the climax of this comedy romance, eager to see what’s in store for Monty and Percy … but what are we left with? Not too much of an ending I was anticipating. Though I’ll give Lee credit that it’s rather hilarious and wholesome, I still felt wanting more.

Lee’s The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky is a HILARIOUS sequel, bringing readers the joy of seeing Monty and Percy’s relationship blossom even further. With comical interludes with characters from the prequel and emphasis on the beauty of diversity, Lee’s novella’s a beautiful and laugh-out-loud story full of memorable moments that will make you eager to read more of the Montague Siblings series!
