February 2020 || Monthly Wrap Up

Hello beautiful people!

Well then … I don’t like wishing away time … BUT THANK GOSH IT’S THE END OF FEBRUARY! I NEED SPRING!!! Seriously, I do enjoy the snow and all — but I miss green trees and the grass and flowers blooming …

One nice thing is that February did NOT have NEARLY as many gloomy days as January — the sun ACTUALLY came out to play and we had some decently “warmer” days this month — it was magical!

Books I Read

Book Reviews

Love & Gelato (Book #1) by Jenna Evans Welch

Rating:

Brief Thoughts: “Overall, Welch’s Love & Getalo is an adorable young adult romance novel, one that’s sure to make your heart melt. Not only does the novel focus on romantic love, but Welch focuses a lot on familial love and learning to cope with the loss of a loved one. Wonderfully written and beautifully detailed, this meet-cute love story will have you enticed!”

Daughter of the Siren Queen (Book #2) by Tricia Levenseller

Rating:

Brief Thoughts: “Levenseller’s Daughter of the Siren Queen is an excellent finale to this sword-fighting, swashbuckling, pirate adventure story; the all-enticing plot and the brilliantly crafted characters completely draws you in, desperately wanting more! From comedy to terrifying suspenseful moments, Levenseller gives readers a grand story like no other. Though it’s sad to see it end, I’m absolutely thrilled with the finale of Alosa’s story.”

Favourite Posts of the Month

So … February was a ROUGH month — I was sick with MULTIPLE illnesses, trying to study and learn French for my course, working my full-time job, maintaining a social life — WHILE also trying to keep up-to-date with this blog. Unfortunately, that meant I really didn’t have a lot of time to read all your lovely posts. But here are a few I remembered to bookmark!

Goodreads Reading Challenge

At the moment, I think I’m one or two books behind? However, I’m pretty sure I’ll have another book done by the time this wrap up is posted (since I’m currently almost done and it’s Wednesday February 26):

As promised, I did start some discussion posts! For February, I decided to publish a “romance” themed for Valentine’s Day and a Black History Month book list in honour of Black History Month (obviously). I’m still searching for some ideas for March — but I think I might know one or two.

Other than that … there’s not too much! Be prepared to see some buddy read posts soon! I’ve been participating in a few recently, with more already in the works over the next couple of months!

Personal Life Updates

So … I started French Training … WHY DID I NOT LEARN THIS AS A CHILD?! Oh my gosh … as much as I’m enjoying it … it’s EXHAUSTING! Honestly, I’m envious of anyone who knows more than one language already …

As I mentioned before, February was the “let’s be sick for the entire time” month — it was BRUTAL! But I still managed to have some fun! My partner took me to see The Neverending Story play at the National Arts Centre (NAC) — and it was amazing! We got all stressed up and it was lovely — he also bought me The Starless Sea … ya … he’s a keeper.

Two of my good friends had birthdays this month, so that’s always a blast! From bouldering to sushi to billiards to drinking … the fun never ends ha-ha!

I have to say, February has been hard mentally — I just miss the sunshine so much! But luckily, I have lots of great people in my life to help me get out of that funk (thanks to you all by the way). I’ve already started making lots of exciting plans with my partner, friends and family though throughout the remainder of the year — so I’m getting really PUMPED!

  1. Wow, February was BUSY! French is a beautiful language. I have a little understanding but I wish I knew more. Sorry you have been so ill. Poor health makes life so difficult. Congrats on managing to get everything done when you were so unwell. Here’s to a healthier March!

  3. I am the same – ready and waiting for spring but it’s almost, *almost* here now.

Take care of yourself, it seems like February was a hectic month for you – don’t wear yourself too thin. Well done on your achievements though – learning French – wow! Such a beautiful language!

  4. Sounds like an insanely busy month for you. Learning a new language is always hard, even when you’re already bilingual. I’m fluent Welsh and English, but I find learning a new language incredibly difficult so props for sticking to it. You’ll be fluent in no time.

    Here’s to a fabulous March!

    1. Oh my gosh yes ha-ha! Still fun but the being sick chronically did NOT help. I’m so behind on my fitness game — trying to start back up this month though!

I hope so! It’s such a struggle! It’s more like the sounds that aren’t in the English language that I’m trying to say — but epically failing at ha-ha!

Here’s to a fabulous March for us both! ❤

    1. So far, so good! I just started up fitness again though, so that’s been BRUTAL! I always hate the first few days of working out when I’ve been on hold with it.

Oh man — I feel that. It’s been super sunny lately THANK GOSH! But I’m so ready for no snow and lots of sunshine!

I’m so excited! I’m HOPING to find time in March? Might have to bump it to April though. Have a lovely March as well, darlin’! ❤

  7. Yeah, I’m ready for winter to fade away into spring. I definitely get the winter blues and just feel so tired and moody during the gloom of this depressing season. I am more than ready to get around to enjoying spring. It’s supposed to be pleasantly warm for the next several days here, so I’m just hoping it’s sunny and warm. At the current moment it’s still pretty darn gloomy out. Yuck.

Anyway, you still had a pretty great month in spite of being so busy; that’s great! Hopefully March treats you a little better though.

      1. I think we had snow in October this time around, but then it cleared away until sporadically in December-February. It’s unpredictable and does nothing to improve my winter blues. I’m definitely ready for the darkness to leave.

  8. I’m sorry to hear February has been so hard on you. I can relate since my month was also very exhausting and I’m currently sitting at home ill with the most extreme cold ever and migaines. So fun! I hope your health problems are getting less intense and March turns out to be a little bit less challenging on us both!

Learning a new language is so difficult! I studied both German and French in high school but I barely remember anything. Now I just speak Dutch and English which is enough for now haha. I wish you all the luck with your lessons. French is definitely a beautiful language! Are you learning it now for any particular reason?

Also, I’m so glad your partner and friends were able to make your difficult month more bearable. They sound great! Now let’s hope March brings lots of fun and sunny days 🙂

    1. Awe — thanks love. I really appreciate it. I swear, February has just been ROUGH! So many people I know (blogging and non) have had a rough time in February. Hopefully that just means all good things are to come!

I’m learning it for work. It’s not MANDATORY, but if I want to move up anywhere, it’d need it. It would also just be nice for clients and my friends to feel comfortable speaking French to me. I’m in the capital area of Canada, where it’s VERY bilingual. But I didn’t grow up here, so I never really caught onto French (the training isn’t as great where I grew up ha-ha).

They honestly are — I feel like they’ll never know how much I appreciate them, since words honestly don’t describe it. I’m VERY lucky I’m surrounded by such beautiful people. Here’s to a great March for us both!! ❤

  9. Oh, no! The only good thing about February is that it’s finally over 😀 As much as I loved January and getting into the whole “new year” groove, February was exhausting! (and March isn’t slowing down either…) I hope you’re feeling much better now! Spring is so very close now.
We had some incredible weather this year, it’s been very warm and nice, with little rain. 👍🥂
