Down the TBR Hole #24 || Book Meme

Hello beautiful people!

Well then … this was NOT a successful declutter post whatsoever — I think I removed ONE book. However, this DID remind me of a LOT of books that have been removed from my radar that are MUST reads ASAP! So there’s always that.

Let’s get to it, folks!

The Creator and the Rules

This was created by Lia @ Lost in a Story — she has a new blog though called Sunflowers and Wonder!

  1. Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf
  2. Order on ascending date added.
  3. Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books.
  4. Read the synopses of the books.
  5. Decide: keep it or should it go?
  6. Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Book #186 | Shadow and Bone (Book #1) by Leigh Bardugo

Date Added: May 19, 2017

Synopsis: Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free […]

Verdict: KEEP

I’m very conflicted here, since I do like Bardugo’s writing — but sometimes, it’s not my cup of tea? It can be rather heavy. But so many of you have raved about this series, so I’m going to at least give it a try!

Book #187 | It Started with Goodbye by Christina June

Date Added: May 23, 2017

Synopsis: Sixteen-year-old Tatum Elsea is bracing for the worst summer of her life. After being falsely accused of a crime, she’s stuck under stepmother-imposed house arrest and her BFF’s gone ghost. Tatum fills her newfound free time with community service by day and working at her covert graphic design business at night (which includes trading emails with a cute cello-playing client). When Tatum discovers she’s not the only one in the house keeping secrets, she finds she has the chance to make amends with her family and friends. Equipped with a new perspective, and assisted by her feisty step-abuela-slash-fairy-godmother, Tatum is ready to start fresh and maybe even get her happy ending along the way.

Verdict: KEEP

There’s just something SUPER interesting and powerful about the synopsis — and a lot of book bloggers that I really love have really enjoyed reading this — so it’s staying.

Book #188 | Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

Date Added: May 23, 2017

Synopsis: It was Sloane who yanked Emily out of her shell and made life 100% interesting. But right before what should have been the most epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. All she leaves behind is a to-do list.

On it, thirteen Sloane-inspired tasks that Emily would normally never try. But what if they could bring her best friend back?

Apple picking at night? Okay, easy enough.

Dance until dawn? Sure. Why not? […]

Verdict: KEEP

Okay — how cute yet hilarious does this book sound!? I’ve been wanting to read one of Matson’s books for quite some time, but I just forget or other books end up on my mind. But this year, I’m VERY determined to read this book! It feels like a good summer read …

Book #189 | Ruined (Book #1) by Amy Tintera

Date Added: May 24, 2017

Synopsis: Emelina Flores has nothing. Her home in Ruina has been ravaged by war. She lacks the powers of her fellow Ruined. Worst of all, she witnessed her parents’ brutal murders and watched helplessly as her sister, Olivia, was kidnapped.

But because Em has nothing, she has nothing to lose. Driven by a blind desire for revenge, Em sets off on a dangerous journey to the enemy kingdom of Lera. Somewhere within Lera’s borders, Em hopes to find Olivia. But in order to find her, Em must infiltrate the royal family […]

Verdict: GO

— I have no good reasons as to why I’m removing this. I’m just not getting that “I-need-to-read-this” vibe … you know? Either way, it’s GOOOOOOOOOOOONE!

Book #190 | Traitor’s Blade (Book #1) by Sebastien de Castell

Date Added: May 26, 2017

Synopsis: Falcio is the first Cantor of the Greatcoats. Trained in the fighting arts and the laws of Tristia, the Greatcoats are travelling Magisters upholding King’s Law. They are heroes. Or at least they were, until they stood aside while the Dukes took the kingdom, and impaled their King’s head on a spike.

Now Tristia is on the verge of collapse and the barbarians are sniffing at the borders. The Dukes bring chaos to the land, while the Greatcoats are scattered far and wide, reviled as traitors, their legendary coats in tatters […]

Verdict: KEEP

I am DETERMINED to get to this book this year! I tried reading it a year ago, but I wasn’t in a fantasy genre mood, so no dice. But lately, I’ve been missing the fantasy genre — so I can FINALLY try this book out again. Anyone that wants to POSSIBLY buddy read this … hit me up!

  2. I’m so glad you decided to keep Shadow & Bone – I definitely feel like it doesn’t get enough love in the book community, but I honestly loved the Grisha trilogy as much as the Six of Crows duology! Also VERY interested to hear your thoughts about Since You’ve Been Gone – it actually has one of my most hated tropes in it! 😂
