Down the TBR Hole #29 || Book Meme

Hello beautiful people!

… so … we had SNOW the other day … seriously, Canada?! Well, it’s NOT like I have anywhere to be so it’s all good — and it does look pretty when there’s blue skies but there’s also snow clouds to have some snow falling at the same time. I’ve also been getting back into reading … FINALLY! It feels like FOREVER since I’ve really wanted to just dive into a book and explore the story. Hopefully this trend continues … especially since I haven’t finished my O.W.L.s Readathon Challenge yet … he-he.

Hopefully you’re all doing well and you’re ready for … ANOTHER WEEK OF CLEANING OUT THAT TBR PILE!

The Creator and the Rules

This was created by Lia @ Lost in a Story — she has a new blog though called Sunflowers and Wonder!

  1. Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf
  2. Order on ascending date added.
  3. Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books.
  4. Read the synopses of the books.
  5. Decide: keep it or should it go?
  6. Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Book #211 | The Julian Chapter (Book #1.5) by by R.J. Palacio

Date Added: June 13, 2017

Synopsis: From the very first day Auggie and Julian met in the pages of the #1 New York Times bestseller Wonder, it was clear they were never going to be friends, with Julian treating Auggie like he had the plague. And while Wonder told Auggie’s story through six different viewpoints, Julian’s perspective was never shared. Readers could only guess what he was thinking.

Until now. The Julian Chapter will finally reveal the bully’s side of the story. Why is Julian so unkind to Auggie? And does he have a chance for redemption?

Verdict: KEEP

Like I mentioned last week, I ADORED Wonder … it’s one of my all-time favourite novels! Even though Julian is SUCH an unlikable character, we have to remember that he IS just a child … a lot of the things he learns are from his parents and other guardians. So I’m really intrigued to see why he acts the way he does towards Auggie … what kind of life he has to be such a bully.

Book #212 | American Gods (Book #1) by Neil Gaiman

Date Added: June 15, 2017

Synopsis: Days before his release from prison, Shadow’s wife, Laura, dies in a mysterious car crash. Numbly, he makes his way back home. On the plane, he encounters the enigmatic Mr Wednesday, who claims to be a refugee from a distant war, a former god and the king of America.

Together they embark on a profoundly strange journey across the heart of the USA, whilst all around them a storm of preternatural and epic proportions threatens to break […]

Verdict: KEEP

I REALLY need to read this book … unfortunately, it’s at my office — which I can’t go to until we’re allowed to go back to work. But hopefully, I can try this out this summer or fall! I’ve heard such good things, and I really did like Gaiman’s Coraline — so I have a feeling I’ll enjoy this even more!

Book #213 | The Summer of Impossible Things by Rowan Coleman

Date Added: June 23, 2017

Synopsis: If you could change the past, would you?

Thirty years ago, something terrible happened to Luna’s mother. Something she’s only prepared to reveal after her death.

Now Luna and her sister have a chance to go back to their mother’s birthplace and settle her affairs. But in Brooklyn they find more questions than answers, until something impossible – magical – happens to Luna, and she meets her mother as a young woman back in the summer of 1977 […]

Verdict: KEEP

I COMPLETELY forgot about this book! I remember reading the synopsis and thinking it sounded absolutely incredible, especially since I have a close connection to my mom. I’m not a big time travel fan, but I just have a good feeling about this book.

Book #214 | This Savage Song (Book #1) by Victoria Schwab

Date Added: June 23, 2017

Synopsis: There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwaba young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.

Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection […]

Verdict: KEEP

… I’ve NEVER read a book by this author, and a LOT of you seem to really like this duology … so even though I’m not sure how I feel about the synopsis … I’m going to keep it, for now.

Book #215 | History is All You Left Me by Adam Silvera

Date Added: July 06, 2017

Synopsis: When Griffin’s first love and ex-boyfriend, Theo, dies in a drowning accident, his universe implodes. Even though Theo had moved to California for college and started seeing Jackson, Griffin never doubted Theo would come back to him when the time was right. But now, the future he’s been imagining for himself has gone far off course.

To make things worse, the only person who truly understands his heartache is Jackson. But no matter how much they open up to each other, Griffin’s downward spiral continues […]

Verdict: GO

… I know a BUNCH of you are going to REALLY dislike this decision … but I just don’t want to read this ha-ha! I’m sure it’s an incredible story and such, but after some SPOILERY reviews … I can already tell there’s going to be things that make me DNF thing … well, they’ll most likely do it.

  1. I also loved Wonder! I need read The Julian Chapters! It sounds super interesting. I would get rid of History Is All You Left Me, too. Just by reading the synopsis it sounds like something I wouldn’t enjoy very much. I’m glad to see you’re keeping most of these though 😀

  2. I would have rioted if you got rid of This Savage Song. You’d be depriving yourself of meeting my darling August haha. I can believe you guys are still getting snow.

  3. I read «The Summer of Impossible Things» a few years ago, and while I liked the plot overall, it wasn’t as amazing as I hoped for it to be. And I also didn’t connect with «This Savage Song» 😦 I will read the second book, just because I already have it, but yeah…

    1. Hopefully I connect with the plot! We shall see … I might try to get it from the library online first and if I like it … buy it (BECAUSE THAT COVER)!

I’m a little nervous i won’t either, but I still want to try. I feel like I need to try one of the books by this author …

  4. i’m secretly glad you removed history is all you left me from your tbr, since i really didn’t like it!! (a very unpopular opinion i know, haha) but yay for keeping this savage song on your tbr! i enjoyed it a lot when i read it, i think schwab really knows how to write good monstrous/villainous characters ❤

  5. Tbh, I really like A Savage Song but I DNF’d its sequel. There’s something about V.E. Schwab’s writing that is really captivating at the time, and her stories are all so incredibly unique, but I find that I don’t really get super invested in the characters and so I really lack the motivation to continue reading her series 😂 I’ll be interested to see what you think of This Savage Song when you eventually read it!
