Down the TBR Hole #30 || Book Meme

Hello beautiful people!

It’s the last one of the month! And I can’t believe I’ve reached post 30 of this book meme … I feel rather accomplished, to be honest! This weekly book meme has helped so much; my Goodreads TBR list is starting to actually look more clean and organized — though I still have quite a bit to go.

Welcome to another round of LET’S CLEAN THAT TBR PILE!

The Creator and the Rules

This was created by Lia @ Lost in a Story — she has a new blog though called Sunflowers and Wonder!

  1. Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf
  2. Order on ascending date added.
  3. Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books.
  4. Read the synopses of the books.
  5. Decide: keep it or should it go?
  6. Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Book #216 | Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum

Date Added: July 06, 2017

Synopsis: Everything about Jessie is wrong. At least, that’s what it feels like during her first week of junior year at her new ultra-intimidating prep school in Los Angeles. Just when she’s thinking about hightailing it back to Chicago, she gets an email from a person calling themselves Somebody/Nobody (SN for short), offering to help her navigate the wilds of Wood Valley High School. Is it an elaborate hoax? Or can she rely on SN for some much-needed help?

It’s been barely two years since her mother’s death […]

Verdict: GO

Firstly, the synopsis doesn’t really get me all excited to read it. Secondly, apparently there’s an excess amount of slut shamming and girl bashing — according to great number of reviews. So I’m okay with not reading this.

Book #217 | The Problem with Forever by Jennifer Armentrout

Date Added: July 06, 2017

Synopsis: Growing up, Mallory Dodge learned that the best way to survive was to say nothing. And even though it’s been four years since her nightmare ended, she’s beginning to worry that the fear that holds her back will last a lifetime. Now, after years of homeschooling, Mallory must face a new milestone—spending her senior year at a public high school. But she never imagined she’d run into Rider Stark, the friend and protector she hasn’t seen since childhood, on her very first day.

It doesn’t take long for Mallory to realize that the connection she shared with Rider never really faded […]

Verdict: GO

Hmmmm … I literally sat at my computer for a solid 30 minutes, trying to decide if I should keep this or not. I think the story sounds interesting, but I’ve also seen a lot of negative reviews regarding the writing style and how long it is. I’ve read some excerpts and … I’m already rolling my eyes at some of the dialogue and descriptions. So it’s a GO for now … but if someone can convince me otherwise, I’ll put it back on!

Book #218 | When Dimple Met Rishi (Book #1) by Sandhya Menon

Date Added: July 06, 2017

Synopsis: Dimple Shah has it all figured out. With graduation behind her, she’s more than ready for a break from her family, from Mamma’s inexplicable obsession with her finding the “Ideal Indian Husband.” Ugh. Dimple knows they must respect her principles on some level, though. If they truly believed she needed a husband right now, they wouldn’t have paid for her to attend a summer program for aspiring web developers…right?

Rishi Patel is a hopeless romantic. So when his parents tell him that his future wife will be attending the same summer program as him—wherein he’ll have to woo her—he’s totally on board […]

Verdict: GO

From Twinkle, with Love was such a disappointment to me — the main character was so rude and her “friend” was just the worst! I ended up DNFing the book because the characters were just really unlikable for me … so I don’t want to be disappointed yet again.

Book #219 | Roar (Book #1) by Cora Carmack

Date Added: July 06, 2017

Synopsis: In a land ruled and shaped by violent magical storms, power lies with those who control them.

Aurora Pavan comes from one of the oldest Stormling families in existence. Long ago, the ungifted pledged fealty and service to her family in exchange for safe haven, and a kingdom was carved out from the wildlands and sustained by magic capable of repelling the world’s deadliest foes. As the sole heir of Pavan, Aurora’s been groomed to be the perfect queen. She’s intelligent and brave and honorable. But she’s yet to show any trace of the magic she’ll need to protect her people […]

Verdict: KEEP

I wasn’t sure if I was going to keep this at first, but it seems like the series gets better and better with each book release. So I’m definitely giving this a shot!

Book #220 | The Way of the Kings (Book #1) by Brandon Sanderon

Date Added: July 18, 2017

Synopsis: I long for the days before the Last Desolation.

The age before the Heralds abandoned us and the Knights Radiant turned against us. A time when there was still magic in the world and honor in the hearts of men.

The world became ours, and yet we lost it. Victory proved to be the greatest test of all. Or was that victory illusory? Did our enemies come to recognize that the harder they fought, the fiercer our resistance? Fire and hammer will forge steel into a weapon, but if you abandon your sword, it eventually rusts away […]

Verdict: KEEP

I NEED TO READ A BRANDON SANDERSON SERIES! Seriously, it’s time. The reviews for the books in this series are REALLY GOOD, stating it’s a MUST READ — so I want to keep it and HOPEFULLY get to it soon.

  1. Sometimes deciding if a book should stay or go is hard. Especially when it’s been on your TBR for so long! At the same time, it is so refreshing to clear out the books you know you won’t ever read! It makes seeing the TBR a little less stressful! I hope you enjoy the books you decided to keep and I hope you get to them soon 😀

  2. Good call on When Dimple Met Rishi – I remember finding it cute for the most part, but then I also thought Dimple treated Rishi pretty abominably a few times & he forgave her way too easily! I’m so glad I never picked up The Problem With Forever – I was planning to give it a whirl bc I haven’t read a single J.L. Armentrout book (I know, I KNOW!) but doesn’t sound like this is her best work! 😛

  3. Oh nooo, I LOVED The Problem With Forever! I read it in March I think, and it was a 5-star read for me. I also loved when Dimple Met Rishi. It was definitely way better than From Twinkle, With Love. Tell Me Three Things is still on my TBR, so I guess you could say I have a totally different taste haha!
I do really like to read these posts though! 🙂
