Tis the Season || My Top 6 Holiday Movies for Christmas 2020

Tis the Season for festive films, yummy treats, and cozying up at home! I’ve been on a BIG Christmas movie-watching binge for the past week … it’s SLIGHTLY a problem since I haven’t read a SINGLE page from ANY book for a week now. But I’m also not too worried, because watching these films really makes me happy.

So for those of you who are looking for a festive movie to watch, or simply just want to watch a film that makes you smile (or laugh out loud), here is a list of my top 6 holiday films for 2020! (Yes … I plan to start doing this every year).

Last Holiday (2006) || Queen Latifah’s absolutely amazing in this film … no matter how many times I rewatch this film, I’m always laughing so hard throughout this film. It’s also just a heart-warming show. It’s not just about the meaning of Christmas, to be quite honest. It DOES take place during the Christmas holidays, but it’s more about not forgetting to follow your dreams and live your life. Life doesn’t stop for you, so you got to remember to do the things that really matter to you.

The Santa Clause (1994) || To be honest, The Santa Clause and The Santa Clause 2 are both on my must-watch list. Tim Allen will always be one of my favourite Santa Claus’! There’s also just a lot going on in these films besides celebrating Christmas, such as broking families to finding love again. And let’s be honest, these films are ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS! I LOVE all the adult humour as well … and Tim Allen randomly saying quotes from other films he’s been in (i.e. Toy Story).

Gremlins (1984) || I DON’T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS! THIS IS A CHRISTMAS MOVIE! How can you NOT want to watch cute little Gizmo in this ridiculously comical film? I’m not usually someone who wants to watch spooky things during the holiday season, but this is definitely classified as more of a comical horror … the Gremlins just SLAY me!

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) || MY CHILDHOOD! I actually have a collectors edition of Rudolph on my bookshelf right now. I don’t know if it’s just the nostalgia or what, but I actually LOVE this film so much. As a kid who was bullied for being different (overly empathetic), I really loved seeing Rudolph succeeding in life BECAUSE he’s different. Also … Hermey holds a special place in my heart.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) || Oh, Jim Carrey … what a national treasure you are. I’m REALLY picky when it comes to comedians, to be honest. But there’s something about Jim Carrey’s comedy that just works for me. I ADORE this film so much. Not only is the music super cute, but I like how the Grinch gets more of a background story explaining why he can’t stand Christmas so much.

The Holiday (2006) || From fits of laughter to a sea full of tears, my emotions are ALL OVER THE MAP with this film. My mom and I would watch this together every Christmas when I lived at home. And I think we both still re-watch it every year to this day. I find the stories really remarkable and wholesome, especially Kate Winslet and Jack Black’s stories. Kate Winslet’s also one of my favourite actresses of all-time, so I’m partially biased towards this film.

Discussion time!

Do you agree with my list? What are some of your favourite holiday films? Any new ones this year that really kicked things off for you?

  1. I ADORE The Santa Clause, I think it’s probably my favorite Christmas movie! The Holiday is also super cute, and I have a soft spot for A Year Without A Santa Claus from childhood (: There truly isn’t any feeling like a cozy night spent watching a Christmas movie! 🥰

  2. I LOVE your list! Last Holiday is such a fun movie, I love Queen Latifah!
I am so with you about The Santa Clause, I love Tim Allen as Santa, he does it really well.
I agree with you about the Grinch, that is my favourite version of it! I SO agree, I love that we get a backstory to Grinch and why he is the Grinch. I watched the 2019 animated version the other night, and as much as I liked it, it just didn’t have all the elements I love from the Jim Carrey version!
Ahhh the Holiday is great, I also rewatched that this past weekend and I think I fall in more in love with it the more I watch it!

  3. I just watched “The Holiday” for the first time this year and really loved it! It was a nice surprise. I’ve always loved this lesser known film called “Christmas Eve” movie featuring Patrick Stewart. It’s an ensemble movie, but it was a little off-beat and quite enjoyable.

  4. OMG! Someone else who knows that version of RTRR!! I grew up watching it every holiday season on TV! I bought it on Amazon but it’s not like remastered or anything. No matter how many times or years I watch it, I’m still like “you go Hermy! You go be a dentist!!!” lol

  5. Happy New Year!

I watch The Santa Clause every single year. It’s by far my favorite full-length Christmas movie. I also like Home Alone, The Polar Express, How The Grinch Stole Christmas TV special, and A Charlie Brown Christmas.
