Hello, beautiful people!
Recently, I decided to join the Twitter community. My thoughts? It’s a great space to find read-a-thons! Seriously, they’re EVERYWHERE! Why am I never able to find them as easily in the Instagram community?!
Anyways, that’s where I found the 2021 Asian Readathon! YouTuber and social media influencer @WithCindy created this amazing readathon that takes place every year during the month of May, which HAPPENS to be Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Intrigued? Seeking a challenge? Looking for some fun reading prompts for May 2021? Continue to read for more information!
What is the Asian Readathon?
According to the Google Doc Cindy provides, the “… Asian Readathon is a month-long reading marathon dedicated to reading books by Asian authors.” So for the month of May, the goal is to read a number of books featuring Asian characters and/or books by Asian authors.
There are 5 prompts to complete, which I will list below. As Cindy states in her Google Doc, “you can combine challenges and read in any order; however, EACH book you read should feature a character or author of a different Asian ethnicity. This is to encourage cultural diversity.” For example, one book can be an Indian novel and cover prompts one and two. However, the remaining books cannot be an Indian book for the remaining prompts.

Book One. Serena Singh Flips the Script by Sonya Lalli: I’ve heard so many cute things about this book! I’m just really seeking all the cozy and cute books, looking for something more lighthearted. This book covers the following prompts: written by an Asian author, featuring an Asian protagonist, written by an Asian Author in your favourite genre (romance), written by a non US centric Asian author. Sonya is a Canadian writer of Indian heritage.
Book Two. I Love You So Mochi by Sarah Kuhn: I saw this fluttering around Instagram late last year, but I never got around to it. Apparently, it’s super adorable! This book covers the following prompts: written by an Asian author, featuring an Asian protagonist, written by an Asian Author in your favourite genre (romance). Sarah is an American writer of Japanese heritage.
Book Three. Naturally Tan by Tan France: I absolutely LOVE Queer Eye … and as much as I love them all so much, I just have a soft spot for Tan … it’s that French tuck trick. Once I found out about his autobiography, I added it to my TBR immediately … and, of course, forgot about my mission to read more non fiction novels. I’m trying to read one non fiction a month this year, so I’ve finally found time to get into this novel! This book covers the following prompts: written by an Asian author, a nonfiction written by an Asian Author, written by a non US centric Asian author. Tan is a British-Pakistani-American fashion designer and author.
