Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.
Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.
Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.
Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

After falling in-love with Henry’s ‘Beach Read’, I HAD to get my hands on this book; especially with all the love it’s been getting in the bookstagram community. Of course, it ended up being a great reading experience.
An adult rom-com novel, Henry’s story explores the lifelong friendship of Poppy and Alex, and what caused their connection to drift apart. It’s also a book about the struggles of adulthood, finding that work/life balance and discovering your passions.
Though slow at a few parts, it’s a beautifully told story. I just felt so happy and in awe during this read … I need Henry to write more books ASAP! I’m a sucker for a slow burn romance where I’m desperately reading on to discover this tension between Poppy and Alex. The discovery is like watching molasses fall off a spoon, intoxicatingly slow but incredibly satisfying.
The connection between Poppy and Alex is beautiful, although I kept comparing it to the couple in ‘Beach Read’; it just wasn’t on the same passion and intensity level. Nevertheless, this is yet another fantastic novel from Henry and I’m ready to devour more.
I recommend this novel if you enjoy: slow paced romcom; friends to lovers trope; multiple timelines; alternating points of view; books about vacations; self discovery; a spontaneous and extraverted female lead; an adorable and introverted male lead; slow burn romance.

SO happy you loved this one, as well. I agree that it might be a bit more slow-paced, but I personally found it all the more addictive! Fantastic review 🙂
